About the disease
Spondylosis is a common disorder of the joints of the spine, which is associated with the wear of the vertebrae of the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine in the process of natural aging. In the course of illness, spondylosis has a devastating effect on the structure of the cartilage, which combine the vertebra into the joint, and on the intervertebral discs, which are a “pillow” between the vertebrae and provide amplitude movements of the neck and back. Dystrophic changes in the neck and back due to spondylosis can also lead to limiting spinal nerves (nerve root). Spondylosis can lead to the appearance of osteophytes (bone growths) and to the joints of the vertebrae, to the spinal osteoarthritis, to chronic back pain, and, as a result, to a significant deterioration in the quality of life, to a decrease in motor activity, the appearance of chronic fatigue. Spondylosis has cervical, thoracic or lumbar localization.
Symptoms of spondylosis
- Lumbar pain
- Feeling of limitation in movements (stiffness) in the lower back in the first half of the day
- Staying in a position standing or lying less painful than a long seat
- Raising objects or inclining increases lumbar pain
- Neck pain
- Back pain
- Muscle weakness, numbness and tingling in shoulders, arms, hands, legs
- Headaches, dizziness, and loss of balance
- Chronic pain, which leads to a limitation of daily motor activity
Diagnosis of spondylosis
When one or more symptoms appear, there is a need to sign up for a consultation with a neurologist. The symptoms of spondylosis are very similar to the symptoms of other diseases of the spine, such as osteochondrosis, intervertebral hernia, Bechterev’s disease. A visit to a doctor will help to establish the exact diagnosis and correct treatment.
Treatment of spondylosis
Treatment of spondylosis is based on the recovery of metabolic processes in the tissues of the spine by the methods of therapeutic exercises, stretching and strengthening the muscles of the spine, massage. A comprehensive method in the “Spine Ambulatory” Centers takes into account the individual characteristics of the patient. All classes are under the control of a doctor and a rehab.
