About the disease
Kyphosis is the curvature of the spine in the anteroposterior direction (anteroposterior plane). Kyphosis is isolated – normal (or physiological) and pathological.
Physiological kyphosis is observed only in the thoracic spine. Kyphosis as a disease with pathological causes usually develops in the thoracic region with painful symptoms in the back. Pathological kyphosis is accompanied by bending angles of more than forty-five degrees.
Quite often, kyphosis is diagnosed simultaneously with scoliosis and can be complicated by osteochondrosis.
Allocate kyphosis angular and arcuate. It depends on the nature of the curvature of the spine. The root cause of angular kyphosis is most often spinal tuberculosis. Angular kyphosis is expressed by the formation of a hump or protrusion of the thoracic region forward. The causes of the arcuate kyphosis can be different, but it is always characterized by a C-shaped smooth curvature of the thoracic spine along the entire length.
Symptoms of osteochondrosis
- back pain
- muscle weakness
- weakness in the legs
- decrease in skin sensitivity
- impaired limb sensitivity
- diseases of the abdominal organs
- violation of pulmonary activity
- circulatory disorders
- intervertebral discs are affected (osteochondrosis may occur)
Diagnosis of kyphosis
Kyphosis is diagnosed visually (external examination by a physician), as well as with the help of radiographic equipment.
In the “Ambulatory back” the doctor necessarily studies the complete history of the development of the disease, checks for the presence of neurological disorders, and also specifies the presence, strength and localization of pain. Examination by a doctor consists in palpation (palpation) of the back and neck, determining the degree of muscle tone, sensitivity of the limbs and skin. Additionally, the physician may conduct special testing to assess the patient’s general condition and his neurological status.
If necessary, the specialist may send for additional examination – X-ray, MRI or CT.
Treatment of kyphosis
Treatment of kyphosis in the “Spine Ambulatory” is carried out only in a conservative way. The process of correcting kyphosis includes – classes on the Cypress device, RKT (restorative kinesitherapy) to strengthen the muscular system of the back and a comprehensive therapeutic massage.
